Smurfs by woohooligan Smurfs by woohooligan
Not much to say on this one other than... well what with their reaction to the Muppets, I wouldn't be surprised to see Fox News treating the Smurfs this way either... or worse, what with all that talk of harmony and community in the smurf village. Remember guys, there's no such thing as "just a story" -- if it's for our kids, it's a communist plot... or a Nazi plot... or both! (Despite the fact that the Nazis and communists of the previous era were enemies.) Though really, the Daily Show's response was a lot better! :D

Also, check out the alternate ending.

Stay awesome, hooligans!

You've got to be smurfin' me! I always wondered what all that smurfin' smurfing was about. Well, smurf me up the smurf. What they can't get away with in a smurfin' kid's cartoon. =D

no problem good buddy. I'm working on some photos to possibly put up tonight. I just got an iPod Touch 4 so I'm interested in seeing how the photos come out. oh I'm sure you've noticed that I'm not journaling here any more. For that purpose I've opened a blogspot account.

Honestly... these parents piss me off. I think one person said it best of all; they're like the parents who went nuts over Bert and Ernie living together even though Bert and Ernie have never done anything that may even give a hint that they're a couple. Sometimes, I wonder what the parents are watching that make them think that everything is bad.

Now don't get me wrong, there have been legitimate cases where kids did get the wrong ideas from shows like the time a bunch of kids tried copying the fight scenes in Power Rangers and wound up injuring themselves, but that doesn't mean the show encouraged it or makes kids violent. It means you have to step in and teach your kids not to copy what they see on TV and the difference between fiction and reality. It's not TV's job to raise kids or teach them how to act.

Love this comic.

Your DeviantID? Sure!

I always try and take a moment to find out who's watching me or commenting on my comics. It helps me get to know my audience and meet cool new people.

Cool cosplays too btw. I'm not a big cosplay guy, but I think it's pretty cool you got up the nerve to wear that Kraehe costume in a competition. I got in front of a crowd wearing almost nothing but gold body paint when I was 16, but there's no way I'd do that now... well maybe not no way, but I'd be a lot more nervous about it now what with my gut hanging over my belt. :bucktooth:

i almost punted my laptop over a fence when i read a review for the lorax about brainwashing kids into being eco conscious sissies...never mind the fact the dolt who wrote the review never even cracked the book. or the review that spongebob squarepants was too "fast paced" for children to understand... :iconfacepalmplz: and both of those reviews were done by msn

i wish tv could be as cool as it used to be when i was little  or heck, even before that! i was flipping through youtube the other day and i ran across the episode of sesame street that had stevie wonder performing superstition live...kids' tv used to be so much cooler than it is now

Yeah, what's been the big new thing in kids TV in the past 10 years or so (since I was a kid)? Teletubbies? Sponge Bob? Blech. (Not that I think it's too fast at all, I just don't think it's innovative or entertaining.) A few of the recent animes are cool -- Avatar, FMA... not sure they count tho, those are for teenagers and to some extent adults even. But yeah, even at a younger age, we really don't need to dumb down the shows for kids so much - they're gonna be exposed to things and they're ultimately gonna make up their own minds about what they agree or disagree with.

I know my daughters both have very definite opinions about the ideas that have been promoted to them whether it was on TV or not -- and in several cases they outright reject mainstream thinking.

Alex is spiritual, she believes there likely is some kind of collective consciousness that we might call "god", but she outright rejects the idea that any single religion is "the one true way" or anthropomorphized visions of deity as a person. Although her view there eerily mirrors my own, she came to all of those conclusions herself, before I had ever had a conversation with her about religion, and despite the fact that her mother is very Catholic. Calli on the other hand is explicitly atheist, which is fine since I don't need other people to share my beliefs.

Thanks, Mel!

ugh teletubbies XD that's an awful show, babies don't get anything from it! spongebob was ok for the first 8 years or so, but now the newer episodes are doing exactly what you described, dumbing it down for kids  avatar was pretty good (even more so since it was a planned effort by nickelodeon lol) but it was still pretty tame compared to most animes lol

Ha. It's like all the parents who went "boo hoo, *rant, rage*" over Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie sharing a room, and had conniption fits over the "grouch" portraying homeless people in a negative fashion.

If they have such a problem with it and have to decide that there's something "horrible for kids" in every thing they see, then they shouldn't make the t.v. a substitute babysitter. Maybe they shouldn't even own a t.v. for that matter (for the children's sake).
