GynoStar by woohooligan GynoStar by woohooligan
This is a totally surprise guest appearance by my friend ~Gyno-Star (Rebecca Cohen), who had no clue she was appearing here. This was an actual conversation we had on Twitter where she put me in my place 'cause I really didn't have a snappy comeback. And maybe I got the facial expressions wrong, I dunno, but I was exaggerating anyway. ;P

Check out the alternate ending in which GynoStar makes somebody cry! It's so sad!

Incidentally, my Twitter isn't @woohooligan. You can follow me @datafaucet.

Stay awesome, hooligans!

Ha! Yeah, you don't shine up the hair in your colors... and I made the eyes a little bigger to make the contrast with my character a little less dramatic.

If I'm being totally honest, the one thing that nags at me about the GynoStar series is that the facial expressions are often hard to see at the scale it's drawn. I don't suppose it should matter much, given that for example the XKCD characters don't have any faces to begin with. ;P But I always find myself looking at your strips and thinking "the art is so nice... now if only it were a little bigger, I could get a better look at that face." Or maybe my expectations are skewed from spending too much time reading comics where the characters are all bobble-headed caricatures. ;P

Thanks, Rebecca!

I've been thinking about playing around with the scale. Thanks for the feedback!

Y-yeah, that's probably why I avoid Twitter; the format encourages quick, concise wit ...which can haphazardly lead to smug putdowns. :invisible:

It does... although that sort of thing rarely happens to me on Twitter... actually mostly what I see on Twitter is people either linking to stuff (usually photos -- occasionally videos or blogs) or telling everyone (who don't care) what they're having for lunch.

It sounds like a patchwork of Tumblr and Facebook.

That said, I've heard Twitter is great for conversing with important people in the industry (so long as you're not talking to them about the industry) ŠP

I can't say re: Tumblr or Facebook since I've never really gotten into either. I view it personally mostly as a platform for announcements - new comics, conventions, etc. or in some cases as an alternative to RSS, but of course we still throw in the occasional joke, epiphany, etc. At least that's how I use it.

When it comes to arriving at the big ideas, nothing beats a small table at a quiet cafe, TBH. (your audience isn't going to drift away to another website)
